NatuRose is an essential ingredient in Breeders Blend tropical fish food and it is also available in its Natural form. But what makes it so important?
Quite simply, it is chock full of astaxanthin,
natures alternative to synthetic colour. By feeding your fish NatuRose you will notice (very quickly) a remarkable difference in their appearance.
NatuRose is a totally natural product -it is grown, not manufactured in a science labaratory, so their are no harmful hormones or synthetic colouring agents. The vitamins, minerals and antioxidants it contains will contribute to an improvement in the overall health of your fish.
Breeders blend tropical fish food has just the right mix of NatuRose for everday needs but breeders can purchase it in its purest forms to supplement their own mixes. It has excellent adherance to semi-moist food and very little wash off when feeding. Once opened Naturose is best kept refridgerated or frozen. Astaxanthin, like all carotenoids, is sensitive to light, heat and oxygen so steps should be taken to minimise exposure to these elements.
NatuRose will benefit all fish!

Naturose - Typical Analysis
What is astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is a member of the carotenoid family. These molecules are associated with many of the colors that you see in leaves, flowers and fruit. They are one of the most abundant molecules in the world and give nature its wide variety of colors. Carotenoids have a long structure called the polyene system and may also have ring groups at one or either end.
The differences in the polyene and ring structures are what varies the carotenoids and their corresponding colors due to different light absorbencies. Astaxanthin is a red pigment and the predominant carotenoid of most crustacean species. Interestingly, when astaxanthin binds to different protein, it can appear green, yellow, blue or brown. When these "carotenoproteins" are denatured by cooking, astaxanthin is released and the red color becomes apparent again.
What types of astaxanthin are currently available?
At this time, the primary source of astaxanthin and carotenoids are synthetic forms produced by chemical means. There are also natural sources available from processed krill, crawfish and a yeast called Phaffia. Unfortunately, these other natural sources contain relatively low astaxanthin concentration, from 1500 parts per million (ppm) in krill and crawfish to 4000 ppm in Phaffia. However, NatuRose contains from 15,000-20,000 ppm astaxanthin and is a fine milled powder that is mixed into the feed before pelleting. NatuRose can be characterized as a "concentrated form" of krill or crawfish because the astaxanthin is in a stable esterified form, like that naturally found in crustaceans.
What are the benefits of using an algae source for astaxanthin compared to the other natural forms?
The krill, crawfish and Phaffia sources contain low concentrations of astaxanthin. Feeds may require so much addition of these products for effective pigmentation that it adds unwanted bulk and ash, decreases palatability, and alters the nutrient balance of the diet. The astaxanthin derived from Haematococcus algae is the most concentrated source of natural astaxanthin that is available. With NatuRose, you add ten times less (only 5 kg per metric ton) to get sufficient astaxanthin in feeds for very effective pigmentation.
How can NatuRose be used in aquatic feeds?
NatuRose can be used to enhance the color of aquatic animals and is an economical and reliable source of natural astaxanthin. Recomended levels of use are as follows.
